How I visit my customers?

Our company has recently implemented flexible mobility tools. So I can now visit clients with the options of a car or any any mobility solution that is available to me. As I’m based in city center of London, I have good access to public transport, but whenever I have a choice I prefer to cycle to avoid the metro and bus overcrowding, especially when the weather is good.. For client visits outside of London, I’ll either use one of our electric cars or get a short-term car from our preferred provider. Booking is easy – I just use the app. I don’t even have to spend time adding details into Concur, everything is processed automatically.

How flexible solutions work for my company

 

When our CEO heard about mobility, she reached out to me and asked me investigate . So I’ve set up a “mobility week” with the key stakeholders. We invited the leasing companies, some of the short term rental providers and a handful of mobility vendors nd aggregators.


Unfortunately, they were not a good fit for us. Either their solutions were  too car-centric or they were not available in the locations where we really needed them. Most of the mobility vendors propose private consumer solutions, which was also not ideal. As what we need is to add flexibility, not add frustration, cost and extra workload.

We have now implemented a flexible solution that manages the “as is” situation (cars) and gives us the possibility to add solutions where we see fit. Our first job was to focus on reducing the size of the car fleet. We’ve done that successfully by measuring the utilization rate of each dedicated car and consequently removed most of the underutilized dedicated vehicles in favor of electric pool cars. The employees still have access to “a” car, but no longer “their” car. We’ve compensated the private utilization of the company car with a private mobility budget.

In some cities, such as London, Paris, Berlin, we’ve radically removed all of the cars and replaced them with alternative mobility solutions. This saves on car cost, but also massively on parking cost.

We have now 3 policies that complement each other: the car policy, the commuting policy and the private mobility policy. Saving on cars, fuel and parking costs has made budget available to introduce additional benefits. This made it easier as well to get the transition approved by the works council as our solutions focused around improving the employee experience and adding value to their benefits.
